Brendan Rodgers has shared why Nicolas Kuhn was missing from the Celtic matchday squad vs Rangers.

Rodgers named a patchwork Celtic starting XI to face Rangers as the Hoops manager looked to halt their two-game losing streak at Ibrox.

With Jota, Alistair Johnston and Kasper Schmeichel all missing, Celtic’s injury problems worsened as Nicolas Kuhn was another big name missing from the team sheet.

Speaking before the big kick-off, the Celtic manager explained why Kuhn was missing from the Glasgow Derby as Adam Idah got the nod.

Nicolas Kuhn knee problem keeps Celtic hero out of Rangers clash

Kuhn had rediscovered the goalscoring form in Celtic’s dismantling of Dundee United last weekend.

However, the German also picked up a problem with his knee as the Celtic manager shared how close Kuhn was to making the starting line-up.

Rodgers told Sky Sports, “Well, he hadn’t trained all week and he done some work with the medical team.

“Yeah, he’s just got a real soreness in his knee. He got the clash last week against Dundee United.

“We tried to give him every chance but hopefully he’ll be ready for the next game.”

Nicolas Kuhn’s Celtic record vs Rangers

Nicolas Kuhn has faced Rangers seven times as a Celtic player. On the verge of winning a treble, the German winger was missed at Ibrox and looking at his past record, it’s not hard to see why.

Whilst Kuhn’s goalscoring and assist record is not the best, Celtic’s winning streak with him in the side is impressive.

The good news is that the 25-year-old looks like he will be fit for the Scottish Cup final as Celtic look to end the season on treble high.
