Vasilis Barkas and Gustaf Lagerbielke to face Celtic in Europa League
As fate would have it, Celtic will end up facing former players Vasilis Barkas and Gustaf Lagerbielke.
Barkas, playing for Utrecht, endured a torrid time at Celtic Park and was dropped by managers Neil Lennon and Ange Postecoglou before joining Utrecht on loan and then signing permanently in July 2023.
Lagerbielke, meanwhile joined Braga in the summer after failing to ever break into the first team and spending last season out on loan at FC Twente.
Lagerbielke’s biggest contribution was his winner against Feyenoord in a Champions League game in 2023.
Both players will now be hoping for revenge when they take on the Bhoys.
Vasilis Barkas and Gustaf Lagerbielke’s Celtic stats
It’s fair to say that neither one of these players set the world alight in Glasgow.
Although Lagerbielke never got a fair run in the side, Barkas was given plenty of chances to establish himself as the number one but never took advantage.

| Games | 24 | 10 |
| Clean sheets | 23 | N/A |
| Goals conceded | 11 | N/A |

Neither player will be fully satisfied with how they fared at Celtic, but are now enjoying their new journeys elsewhere.
