‘This kid’ – Celtic told to pay ‘whatever it may cost’ for the best player Scotland has seen in years

There will come a time when Celtic will need to look at replacing Callum McGregor.

Fortunately for the Celtic fans, that time is still a bit further away as the captain is still under contract to at least 2028 after a new deal was signed last summer.

McGregor has been a stalwart for the Hoops, and finding his replacement could prove nigh-on impossible.

However, there is a player who could potentially do that job in Scotland, and John Hartson has urged Celtic to go and sign him, whatever the cost.

John Hartson tells Celtic to spent ‘whatever it may cost’ to sign Lennon Miller

The speculation surrounding Lennon Miller and Celtic reemerged yesterday after reports suggested that Brendan Rodgers could make a summer move for the talented Scotland youth international.

Upon hearing the rumour, Hartson said money should be no object when it comes to Celtic trying to sign the young midfielder.

Hartson told The Go Radio Football Show [41m], “He’s the type for me, if Celtic were to go and get him, I think like when you sign McCowan and things from Dundee, you’re always thinking, ‘Well, let’s put him on the bench. He’s got to work his way into the team. He’s got to wait until there’s an injury’ or when he plays, he’s got to be absolutely outstanding to keep his place.

“I think this kid, Lennon Miller, I know I’m talking to him up really, really massively here, I think he can stay in the team.

“I think he can excel on the training ground with better players and he will improve an awful lot.

“I genuinely think if Celtic were to get him over the line, whatever it may cost, they’ve just got to go and pay it, in my opinion, because he’s as good a young player, Paul, as I’ve seen in Scottish football for a number of years.”

Lennon Miller’s record for Motherwell vs Celtic

Miller hasn’t enjoyed the best of times against Celtic, but then, which player in Scotland has?

In four appearances, Miller has lost three and drawn one, but it was in the Celtic defeat at Fir Park back in February 2024 where the youngster really shone.

Miller caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers, so much so that the Celtic manager had a wee word with him behind the scenes at Fir Park.

The young Motherwell midfielder said of the conversation, “He just said ‘well done’ and ‘good luck for the season. ’

“It’s nice to get recognition from the people who have had such a good career in the game. I don’t really look at social media, it doesn’t really affect me.

“I just need to show the manager what I can do each day in training and on a Saturday.”

At just 18, Miller has the world at his feet, and with his contract up at the end of next season, Motherwell will either need to deal him in or sell him o,n whether it be to Celtic or another suitor.
