If Martin O’Neill doesn’t remain as the Celtic manager for next season, it will be a bitter pill to swallow for the fans and the players.
Not only has O’Neill brought back the enjoyment, but his coaching staff have proven to be the perfect remedy during turbulent times.
One of them includes the very popular Mark Fotheringham, who started his career at Celtic in 1999 and, ironically enough, left during O’Neill’s first legendary spell in charge, before going into coaching.
Nonetheless, Auston Trusty, who was playing a round of golf with former Hoops star Charlie Mulgrew, was asked about what Fotheringham is like on a day-to-day basis at Lennoxtown, and it’s exactly what you would expect.
“So positive,” said Trusty. “He is so positive. He is the man. Yeah, he is really cool.”

Mark Fotheringham needs to stay on at Celtic
Following Celtic’s domestic double triumph, the one common theme coming from the players is how much they enjoyed working under O’Neill.
Amid talk of Robbie Keane becoming Celtic’s next coach, you feel it’s right that people like Fotheringham are kept on board.
Yes, there are suggestions that the likes of Scott Brown, Jonny Hayes and Stephen Glass will be part of Keane’s coaching staff.
But it’s quite clear by the conversation between Mulgrew and Trusty that individuals like Fotheringham are needed on the training pitch on a weekly basis.
While O’Neill has rightfully dominated the headlines after delivering a dramatic domestic double, unsung heroes like Fotheringham shouldn’t be overlooked.
Working alongside O’Neill and Shaun Maloney as a central part of the backroom staff, Fotheringham’s vital contributions behind the scenes played just as important a role in steadying what was once a sinking ship this season.
Mulgrew: “Fozzy, some man, isn’t he?!”
Trusty: “Fozzy is so funny.”
Mulgrew: “So energetic.”
Trusty: “So positive. He is so positive. He is the man. Yeah, he is really cool.”
