Celtic are pushing for a loan deal for Sevilla striker Kelechi Iheanacho this window.

The Hoops need a new striker to come in after they sanctioned the sale of Kyogo to Rennes to allow him to pursue his international ambitions.

There’s not long now to go in the transfer window and Brendan Rodgers has business still to do with Monday night’s deadline looming.

A winger is also on the agenda after Jota’s arrival with a bid for Sarpsborg 08’s Sondre Orjasaeter rejected as we at 67 Hail Hail told you first.

But it is up top where the priority has to lie with Adam Idah still the only recognised first-team striker with experience under his belt.

Celtic want a loan deal for Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho

Iheanacho is wanted by Celts on an initial six-month loan deal with a future purchase option on the table and a move for the legitimate Premier League goal scorer would be good business.

Not only has Iheanacho proven he can do the business but the Nigerian international has also already worked with Rodgers and has an established relationship with the manager.

The pair won the FA Cup together at Leicester City and the Irishman often praised the 28-year-old for his contributions in front of goal for the Foxes.

Rodgers previously described Iheanacho as “phenomenal”.

What Rodgers has said about Celtic target Iheanacho

He told BBC back in 2021 after an Iheanacho goal vs Crystal Palace: “[Iheanacho’s goal was] incredible. Great pass by Jonny [Evans]. We told the strikers to find space in between the centre-backs and full-backs.

“It was a great ball into space. The skill to turn and finish quickly, a wonderful goal. It capped off a great night for him.

“The top priority for me as a coach is helping players to develop. It’s been difficult for Kelechi because of the style we normally played which was one striker – Jamie Vardy.

“We had to change it round with injuries, he’s come in and been exceptional. Not just his goals. He’s so happy to work hard for the team and his quality is phenomenal.”
