What Luke McCowan has said about what Wilfried Nancy does in second half is very worrying for Celtic

Surely, this can’t go on any longer?

The big problem about Celtic’s current situation under Wilfried Nancy is the fact that it could yet get much worse.

Luke McCowan has been pretty vocal following Celtic’s horror defeat to Rangers at the weekend, and the aftermath of it all has been ugly.

It was the same old, same old from the champions of Scotland. Amazing in the first half, should have scored more goals, and then a complete collapse in the second.

But McCowan’s comments following the derby defeat are very telling as to why the Hoops struggle so much.

Celtic’s best player this season has been…

Luke McCowan on Celtic in the second half under Wilfried Nancy

List the games. Hearts. St Mirren. Dundee United. Rangers. Again, and again. Celtic would produce horror shows in the second half.

Why? Well, McCowan’s comments on Clyde 1 speak volumes as to why that is the case.

The midfielder, who started against Rangers at the weekend and was then hooked off in the second half, explained that the players ‘aren’t reacting’ to what the opposition might change up during the second period.

McCowan didn’t mince his words, and whether fans like it or not, he was pretty forthright in what he was saying, and it’s not a good look for his manager.

But McCowan explained that Rangers ‘changed’ things up after the break, and ‘we didn’t’, which probably sums up why Celtic look so lost during the second half of matches.

What is the biggest problem with this current Celtic squad?

“The manager needs to put his message across, and the players then need to react to it,” said McCowan.

“I think it’s then that teams will change shape. We might dominate the ball for the first 45 minutes through the shape that we play.

“And then in the second 45, they might change the structure or do whatever. We just aren’t reacting to it as well as we should be.

“But football is football. He’s the manager. We need to do what he is implementing in the game. In the first half, we did; in the second half, they changed it, and we didn’t. That’s just as simple as that.”
