What Rennes fans are questioning 24 hours after signing Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic

Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic for Rennes in a £10m transfer deal this week.

The former Celtic striker made it clear that he needed to leave Glasgow to help revive his international career and it seems that Kyogo felt that a move to Rennes was the best way to do that.

To facilitate the move, Celtic purchased Jota in a move that didn’t leave the Rennes fans best pleased so 24 hours after the Japanese striker left Celtic Park, how do the Ligue 1’s side fans feel now?

Rennes fans’ lukewarm reception for Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi

There were messages of welcome to the Hoops icon but as the news of the deal has now sunk in, Rennes fans are asking questions of why Kyogo would come to their club.

@bzh_on_est_bien asked, “The question is: what the hell is he doing in a club that’s fighting to stay up when he could have been playing in Europe?!”

@MatthieuRocha also wanted to know, “Don’t you want to bring out the stats from his 17/18 season as well?” as he questioned the Japan international’s goalscoring record. It was 16 goals in 40 if it matters.

Kyogo’s first training session and some Rennes fans are still unhappy about Jota Celtic

Jota has taken part in his first training session at Celtic and almost simultaneously Kyogo appeared in a Rennes practice session.

Some Rennes fans are still unhappy at losing Jota to Celtic with one saying on the Ligue 1 club’s social media this morning, “You should have blocked Jota, we would have finally made a good decision.” another said, “Impossible, I think that was one of the conditions for doing the Japanese. Selling Jota to Celtic facilitated the transfer of the Japanese to us.”

In Kyogo’s first training session with Rennes, one fan said, “He has a smile that’s a pleasure to see.” and another echoed that sentiment and said, “He is smiling, it’s a pleasure to see.”

It seems that the only way Kyogo will completely win over all the Rennes fans is when he starts scoring goals for his new club.

If he can replicate even close to what he did at Celtic, the French club’s fans will love him just as much as the Parkhead support did over the last three-and-a-half-years.
