Adam Idah certainly caused a stir last night as the Norwich City striker missed a pre-season friendly amid continued links to Celtic.

The Republic of Ireland international was due to fly out to Austria with The Canaries but missed his flight in a move that annoyed Norwich boss, Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Adam Idah was left out of the matchday squad as the Championship side drew 2-2 with Hoffenheim. Thorup shared what he told the Celtic-linked striker and confirmed Idah would face internal disciplinary action.

Thorup said [Pink Un],  “He reported late for the flight on Sunday morning for reasons that should never happen.

“So I spoke to him the other night. And of course, we told him that he had to come to Austria as fast as possible. He came during the night and I spoke to him again.

“I said ‘We as a group of players want to create a protecting environment and this can never happen’. You cannot be a part of the game squad for this game.

“He was sad about the situation and apologised and so on. We will get him back into the group. But it’s also an important message for us to say that there will be consequences when you don’t do your stuff. (Will he be disciplined?) Yes, we will handle that internally.”

Idah is certainly hitting the headlines this summer as the Celtic chat continues but despite last night’s drama, a deal to bring him to Parkhead is still very much on according to Football Scotland journalist, Mark Hendry.

Celtic deal for Idah ‘will’ happen

Hendry took to social media channel X last night and said that whilst Thorup admitted that Celtic’s interest was partly to blame for Idah’s lack of discipline, insiders have told him that a deal for the 23-year-old ‘will’ happen.

Hendry said, “As we at Football Scotland revealed, Idah missed flight and has been disciplined by Norwich.

“Manager confirms Celtic interest “probably” played a part.

“Saga not over. I’ve spoken with some insiders this week who believe a deal will happen. But again, as we said, no second offer tabled.”

Celtic had an initial bid for Idah turned down just under a month ago but since then there has been no significant movement.

After admitting he wants to leave Norwich to join Celtic, the fans will be hoping that it will just be a matter of time before the move happens.

Thorup forgives Idah

And as Idah prepares to find out his fate for his pre-season mishap, Norwich gaffer Thorup is hopeful that a solution will be found for the youngster’s lack of discipline after being asked if he felt let down by the striker.

Thorup continued, “Not really, I would say being a football coach sometimes is a little bit like being a parent.

“You just have to forgive, but you have to accept that there will be mistakes once in a while.

“And we don’t want to create an environment where you cannot make mistakes. But it’s important for us to also make very, very clear to whoever the person is if you do something that is not how we want it to be then there will be consequences.

“We handle that internally. And then we find a good solution. And hopefully, he’ll be back again.”

As Hendry says, the Idah to Celtic rumours are likely to rumble on until both clubs can agree a deal to allow him to move to Glasgow permanently.

The Celtic fans will be hoping that it happens sooner rather than later so that Brendan Rodgers can move on to other targets to strengthen the team before the transfer window closes.
