Celtic striker, Kyogo Furuhashi has been the subject of much transfer speculation this January.
Kyogo has been named as a player of interest for MLS side Atlanta United as reports suggested a £10m bid for the Celtic striker could be on the cards.
No such bid ever materialised, however, that didn’t stop one of the most bizarre transfer stories kicking off about the Celtic hero and the MLS club.
The US National Association made an announcement that Kyogo had joined Atlanta on their official website but that was quickly deleted and the MLS apologised to Celtic for the error.
Brendan Rodgers had to address the Kyogo rumour before Celtic took on Ross County in what had to be one of the strangest transfer episodes in the history of the club.
It seems, now, that the speculation about Kyogo leaving Celtic joining Atlanta will all but end after a recent announcement by Keith Downie of Sky Sports confirmed that the MLS side is about to close in on the signings of a Newcastle and Middlesbrough player.

Atlanta United’s latest transfer update will end interest in Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi
67 Hail Hail discussed recently how Atlanta United were attempting the £18m signing of Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Well, it seems the American side is taking it one step further with a raid of Newcastle United as former Celtic boss Ronny Deila steps up his recruitment efforts as the MLS side.
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie updates on X, “Atlanta United are closing in on a stunning £30m double transfer swoop on North East clubs.
“Miguel Almiron is on the verge of a return to his former club. An £8m(+add-ons) fee is close to being agreed with Newcastle.
“Almiron is set to be joined Stateside by Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath.
“Atlanta are also in advanced discussions over an £18m move for the Ivory Coast international, which will break the MLS transfer record.”
What next for Kyogo as Celtic ramps up recruitment efforts
The Japanese striker has been utilised in a new role at Celtic of late due to injuries to Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn.
However, recent chat amongst Celtic fans is that Kyogo looks unhappy after he failed to celebrate his goals in his usual enthusiastic style during the Bhoys’ win over Ross County.
Hopefully now, if Atlanta can get these deals over the line, the Hoops talisman can put the recent headlines behind him and do what he does best because, with the Scottish Cup and Champions League up next, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is going to need him firing on all cylinders.
