Wilfried Nancy is being pilloried for the tactics he is deploying at Celtic.

After Celtic’s defeat to Dundee United, Nancy has overseen another loss trying to shoehorn players into positions that they are clearly not comfortable in.

Celtic, once again, looked bereft of ideas, invention and creativity and when Dundee United scored their first goal, the result looked inevitable.

And it’s all down to how Nancy is using his players. And if what Willie Haughey says is accurate, Celtic fans will be worried about the Hoops gaffer moving forward.

Wilfried Nancy is telling Celtic players to play out of position

Nancy is adamant he wants to keep his 3-4-3 system at Celtic despite not having the players to fit and Haughey shares how the Frenchman is trying to force it to work.

Haughey told the Let Me Be Frank podcast, “The guy seems clever, right?

“So see if you’re clever. You do your homework on the club. And you work out, in the last 25 years, we have won 24 trophies by playing 4-3-3.

“We have recruited players to fit a system when you play 4-3-3. So you don’t go in, in the first game and go, ‘I’m going to 3-5-2, whether I’ve got the personnel or not’.

“And if the stories are true about bringing players in and saying, ‘Right, I want you to think like a right back now, because you’re going to be a right back’ and you’re looking going, ‘What?’

“What happens there is your ego’s getting in the way and what you’re doing is you’re playing God.”

The formation Wilfried Nancy could use with current Celtic players

The 3-4-3 needs to be ditched. That much is clear. However, with the current set of players, which system could the Celtic boss use to save his season?

A 3-5-2 is possible which would still allow Nancy to play his attacking style of football. Bear with us, this is how it would look.

The Celtic line-up Wilfried Nancy could deploy vs Aberdeen.

This would allow Nancy to have his attacking wingbacks, solidify the defence and midfield and allow two strikers to solve Celtic’s goal scoring problems.

Will Nancy make any changes like this for Celtic’s next fixture against Aberdeen? It’s unlikely but he needs to do something to change the trajectory this team are on.
