Celtic faced an away stadium ban for Bayern Munich clash
But there had been nerves surrounding Celtic’s away tie after pyro threatened a stadium ban for away punters in Germany.
UEFA waited until this morning to issue their punishment for the infringement at Aston Villa on matchday eight following supporters feeling the anxiety as they wanted to travel to the Allianz Arena.
It was confirmed by UEFA today that there would be NO Celtic fan ban in place and instead only a €10,000 fine would be the outcome.
Still not ideal, but the fanbase were pleased to avoid any serious sanctions and they took to social media to tell of their relief.
Fans react to Celtic avoiding fan ban
One said: “Let’s go Bhoys in green!” as another commented: “Should be a massive wake up call.”
One wrote: “Fans now need to take this on board & ditch the pyro or we will absolutely get banned very soon.”
A fourth added: “The Celtic fans will take over Munich.”
Others urged more caution to punters who might take the opportunity to consider the lack of severity an “excuse” to use more fireworks.
But that they should absolutely ditch it.
One said: “Fans now need to take this on board & ditch the pyro or we will absolutely get banned very soon”.
Another commented: “Hope the eejits don’t think this is a green light for more pyro.”
One added: “Discussion about pyro at football needs to happen, it’s obviously not going away, but until it’s legal then got to hope we avoid it.”
A fourth noted: “Okay all forgiven.”
Celtic issued a statement following UEFA’s stance.
Celtic’s statement read: “Celtic Football Club notes today’s decision by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body to fine Celtic 10,000 Euros, following our match against Aston Villa, for the throwing of fireworks.
“We can confirm that Celtic supporters will be able to attend our forthcoming Champions League match in Munich.
“As we had said previously, Celtic made every effort to ensure that our fans could attend this match, and we are pleased that UEFA has considered our detailed submission.
“We can also confirm that the original suspended sentence remains in place, as a result of the previous use of pyrotechnics, most recently at the match against Borussia Dortmund, by a small minority of supporters.
“Again we must make it very clear that pyrotechnics have absolutely no place at our matches and should further incidents occur, then clearly, once again, there is an extremely high risk of our supporters not being permitted access to future matches.”
