There is no better time to strike than while the iron is hot.

Celtic can be accused of missing out on several opportunities when it comes to transfers in recent weeks.

It took them over 20 days of the January window to secure a striker after Tomas Cvancara signed on the dotted line.

Martin O’Neill still has other positions that he wants bodies in before the 2 February deadline, and as one player angles for a move away from his current club, the Hoops should be all over it.

Aurele Amenda wants to leave Eintracht Frankfurt

One position that O’Neill clearly feels that Celtic can improve in is the centre-back role.

A lack of options following Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s loan being terminated led to Stephen Welsh being recalled.

Aurele Amenda emerged as a target for the Hoops and according to Estadio Deportivo is hoping to leave Eintracht Frankfurt in search of more game time.

The Swiss defender has been used sparingly this season, largely off the bench, and wants to be a regular starter somewhere else.

Several Ligue 1 clubs are also looking at him, but Celtic must get in there first.

Aurele Amenda would be a huge upgrade to Celtic’s defence

Having played regularly in a top five European league for some time, the 22-year-old comes with the experience and knowhow of playing on the big stage.

Outside of Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, the Hoops only have Dane Murray and Welsh as available backups.

It isn’t harsh to say that they are a step down in quality compared to the duo that start.

Amenda would improve that and push the two all the way for a starting spot, as well as provide extra strength in depth for a busy end to the season.
