Celtic now have an apt chance to land Aston Villa star after EFL club’s transfer embargo

By the end of the summer transfer window, it’s going to be interesting to see how Celtic’s attack shapes up because major changes are happening.

Benjamin Nygren is already through the door, Celtic are hopeful of keeping Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn is on his way out, another striker is incoming, and Jota is injured long-term.

Brendan Rodgers needs to cover a lot of bases out wide, as well as in the central attacking areas, so players are needed and preferably versatile ones.

Back in the winter, Celtic were linked with Louie Barry, but the Aston Villa player headed to Hull City on loan, and he was expected to complete a permanent transfer this summer, but there has been a huge twist.

Hull City placed under transfer embargo as deal for Aston Villa’s Louie Barry falls through

The man at the top of the tree at Hull City is Acun Ilıcalı, and he has close ties with one of Villa’s co-owners, Nassef Sawiris, hence why they were able to lure Barry to their club.

There was the suggestion by the Athletic that Barry was recently heading to the Yorkshire side for £3.5 million, but now there is a major problem.

The EFL (English Football League) have hit Hull with a transfer embargo, and a ‘three-window’ ban with ‘immediate effect’.

Funnily enough, one of the issues stems from the non-payment of monies owed for Barry’s loan over the winter – the club have appealed its ban, but the Barry deal is on the floor, at the moment.

Celtic’s chance to relive Barry transfer push

Celtic are searching for attacking wide players, and this is their ideal chance to pounce on Hull’s issues and land Barry’s signature.

Given the transfer fee mentioned – £3.5 million – it’s well within Celtic’s range, and this is a chance to cover several bases up top.

Not only can Barry play on the left flank, but he is also a central attacker, and he has actually played a large portion of his young career down the middle.

It’s simple, make it happen, Celtic! This would be a top coup, and a player who would seriously develop to a high standard under Rodgers.
