Michael Gannon has accused Celtic supporters of ignoring the facts over Marcelo Saracchi, which would be fair enough if his own previous reporting had not told them something very different.
The anger around Saracchi did not appear from nowhere. Celtic fans were repeatedly given the impression that the club wanted the defender back and were considering a permanent move.
Gannon has now decided that version of events needs corrected. His latest line is that Celtic barely pursued Saracchi at all.
Gannon says Celtic made a tentative inquiry about another loan, Boca Juniors rejected it and “that was that.” He also believes supporters raging about the failed return are ignoring the facts.

Michael Gannon previously reported a different Celtic story
Gannon’s own reporting on May 28 claimed Celtic had not submitted a bid, but they were said to be keen on a permanent deal and aware of rival interest.
At the time he said, “Celtic are also keen to explore the possibility of securing Marcelo Saracchi on a permanent basis from Boca Juniors following his impressive loan stint.”
That is not the same story as Celtic casually asking for another loan and immediately walking away. In May, Celtic were exploring a permanent deal. Now the same supporters are being told Celtic were never really pursuing him at all.
A day later, on the 29th of May, the Daily Record journalist said, “The Hoops are exploring the possibility of keeping Marcelo Saracchi but have yet to make their move while the dugout gets sorted.”
Perhaps Gannon has been given a new briefing since May. That still does not allow him to blame Celtic fans for believing his earlier reports.
Celtic fans did not invent the Saracchi transfer expectation
Nobody is claiming Gannon said the deal was done. But his latest account is miles away from the permanent-transfer interest he reported in May.
Celtic supporters did not invent the interest in Saracchi or create the permanent transfer story themselves. Reports carrying Gannon’s name helped create that.
That makes his dig at the support remarkably bold. Before lecturing Celtic fans about ignoring facts, Gannon should probably explain why his own facts have changed so dramatically.
