The recent speculation surrounding Liel Abada’s future at Celtic took a massive step forward yesterday afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers admitted in Celtic’s pre-match press conference yesterday that the 22-year-old could leave the club.
When asked if Abada could be let go on loan, Rodgers said [Celtic YouTube 7m:49s], “Yeah, it’s a possibility, it’s a possibility. But we’ll see. We will work together on it.”
Having just recovered from a serious injury, hopes were high that Abada would return to the Celtic fold and help spur the team on in this now title race.
However, with the Israeli winger’s personal situation, it seems that the only option now is for Abada to leave Celtic.
Speculation surrounding his future has been going on since last summer, but Abada put that to bed when he signed a new deal at the club.
Reports last night suggested that teams from the MLS are open to making Abada’s move permanent [Scottish Daily Mail] but should he prefer the option of a loan, here are some possible destinations he could take with countries whose transfer windows are still open.
Possible Celtic exit options for Liel Abada
Whilst the transfer window in Scotland and England closed on the 1st of February, there are still plenty open across Europe and further afield.
If a move to the MLS appealed to Abada, the Celtic winger has plenty of time to make that deal happen as their window doesn’t close until the 23rd of April.
A loan move across Europe is still possible for the winger. Whilst the windows of the five big leagues are closed, Poland (January 23rd), Sweden (March 28th) and Norway (April 3rd) can all still recruit.

If Abada fancied it, he could hook up with former teammate, Yosuke Ideguchi in Japan as their window is open for a further 39 days. [Transfermarkt]
Whatever Celtic and Abada do decide one thing we can all agree on is that to lose a player of his calibre is a big loss for the club.
Rodgers had high hopes for Abada and the young winger sparkled in the preseason tours of Japan and Ireland.
But for the sake of the player and the club, let’s hope this situation is sorted out sooner rather than later.
