Three Lennon Miller transfer alternatives Celtic should consider if move fails to materialise

Lennon Miller is a name everyone affiliated to Celtic knows far too well.

Miller has been tipped to join Celtic this summer and the rumour mill around the 18-year-old doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Unsurprisingly, the Bhoys aren’t the only side to be pondering a move for the Motherwell starlet and are facing competition from a host of clubs around Europe.

There’s every chance that Miller could turn down Celtic and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Lewis Ferguson and pursue a move overseas.

In the event that he does choose to reject a move to Celtic Park, here are three alternatives that Brendan Rodgers should look to sign this summer.

Mahamadou Diawara – Lyon

Mahamadou Diawara is very similar in terms of age profile to Miller, just slightly older as a 20-year-old.

Diawara has come through the ranks at Lyon and was linked with a move to Glasgow in the January transfer window – only to remain in France and join Le Havre after becoming frustrated at his lack of game time.

He will need to improve his goals and assists output, registering just one of the latter this season but could be a strong loan option, or even a permanent deal for the right fee.

Killian Phillips – St Mirren

Killian Phillips has been celebrating his first senior call-up to the Ireland national team after excelling on loan with St Mirren this season, where he won three separate accolades during their awards night.

Phillips signed an obligation-to-buy deal with the Buddies after joining on loan in August 2024, but contracts mean little in football these days and the right offer could twist St Mirren’s arm.

In terms of a deal, Phillips may even command a fee in the same region as Miller and Rodgers will need to decide if it’s something he’s willing to spend, or invest in the Motherwell youngster instead.

The most unlikely of the three names on the shortlist.

Yuya Kuwasaki – Vissel Kobe

Japan has been a happy hunting ground for Celtic over the years, discovering Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate there, as well as former star Kyogo Furuhashi.

Yuya Kuwasaki plays in midfield for giants Vissel Kobe and the 23-year-old is versatile, able to play in defensive and attacking roles, as well as right-back if really needed.

He would need a bedding in period but does have a contract, which expires in January 2026, so could be available for a cut-price fee and perhaps far cheaper than Miller.
