Two international players Brendan Rodgers could sign for free after previously being linked to Celtic

As the Celtic fans still await the third new signing of the season to be announced, there is hope that it may not be that too far away.

Paulo Bernardo is widely expected to join the club permanently after Celtic agreed personal terms with the Portuguese midfielder last week.

Adam Idah is another player who has been heavily linked with a return to Celtic after a successful January loan spell.

The Norwich City striker has made his Celtic intentions clear but, as yet, there has been no agreement reached between the clubs on a fee for the 22-year-old.

However, there are two former Celtic targets who have just become free agents whom the club were previously linked to after French side, Bordeaux released them last week.

Alberth Elis and Zan Vipotnik are now free agents

Bordeaux has hit serious financial difficulties and made an announcement last week that they had filed for bankruptcy and will lose their professional status with the French FA.

That means that all current players will be released from their contracts and that winger, Alberth Elis and striker, Zan Vipotnik, will become free agents this summer and available should Celtic wish to reignite their interest.

Celtic were first linked to Elis back in 2021 when Ange Postecoglou was looking to bolster his squad after taking over late into the summer.

However, no move materialised and Elis moved to Bordeaux. The Honduran enjoys a close bond with Luis Palma and the Celtic winger paid tribute to his friend after Elis was seriously injured by a head clash in Ligue 2 fixture last season.

Vipotnik was linked to Celtic just last summer as the Slovenian’s agent was reported to have confirmed interest from the Parkhead club prior to Brendan Rodgers’ arrival.

With only one striker at the club, Vipotnik could represent a good bit of business as at just 22, the Bordeaux striker has a decent strike rate of 44 career goals and 10 assists in just 122 appearances.

Both players could do a job for Brendan Rodgers considering the Celtic manager is looking to bolster his attacking options and with no transfer fee involved and the fact that both players know how each other tick, the risk of signing two proven international attackers reduces significantly.
