Why Celtic’s 7,500 fans will make a mockery of Danny Rohl’s Rangers request to silence them

Danny Rohl has called for Rangers to silence the 7,500 Celtic fans who will be packed into the Broomloan Stand for the Scottish Cup quarter-final. Little does he know the opposite will happen.

Celtic will take their largest following to Ibrox since 2018, the infamous day where Odsonne Edouard’s winner forced them into cutting the allocation.

After coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in the league clash, a place at Hampden Park is on the line here and Rohl thinks that his supporters can drown out the Hoops faithful.

You are Martin O’Neill, what is the first change you would make for the cup game against Rangers?

Danny Rohl’s message to Rangers fans before Celtic clash

Rohl seems wary of the fact that Celtic will have so many fans packing out the stands at Ibrox and admits that it will have an effect on his team this weekend.

“Of course it will have. But if we play 50 minutes like we did then the 7,500 will also be quiet,” he claimed.

“I think this is the part in the game where you feel it. We influence, we can influence, we can make the impact on our performance on the pitch.

“The atmosphere was incredible for 50 minutes, really incredible. It was amazing to feel this.”

Danny Rohl faces no escape from the noise of Celtic supporters

Those who have been in the Rangers dugout before Rohl since 2018 have been lucky enough to get away without experiencing a true Celtic following away from home in the Glasgow derby.

There is no place for the German to hide now though. This isn’t just a pocket of fans, it is a full stand.

Do you reckon these reduced allocations have taken the edge off the Glasgow derby?

From mocking the walkout song of ‘Simply the best’ to the chorus of boos every time a Rangers player touches the ball, they will know it is no longer on their terms.

Celtic have an excellent record when playing Rangers after midweek games and the hard-fought 2-1 win against Aberdeen has provided extra momentum.

Enjoy the silence while you can, because Sunday will be anything but that.
