Wilfried Nancy hasn’t been helping his dire situation with some of his media appearances as Celtic manager.
Nancy suggested that Celtic deserved more from their Glasgow derby defeat to Rangers in which they threw away a solid first-half performance by allowing the visitors to score three without reply.
That came 24 hours after the Frenchman went on an extraordinary seven-minute rant in which he hit out at the negativity he has received.
67 Hail Hail fans want Nancy sacked and his post-match comments regarding his relationship with the board won’t do much to sweeten the atmosphere.
If Wilfried Nancy was to be sacked, who would you want to become the next Celtic manager?
Wilfried Nancy says he is aligned with the board
Following the loss at Celtic Park, the 48-year-old said his usual line of trusting the process and insisting that the side are not far away from where he wants them to be.
His last sentence was perhaps the most concerning though.
“We are together with the board,” he said.
Obviously, he can’t come out and say the relationship with the board is in tatters, but did he not hear the outrage in the stands?
Read the room, Wilfried
While Celtic pressed the self-destruct button on the pitch again, fans inside the stadium called out the board and chanted for them to be sacked.
Some footage on social media even showed sections of the home crowd confronting the directors box, which contained the likes of Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay.
After full-time, supporters then gathered outside the main entrance at Celtic Park to confront the board right up to the early evening.
Is Wilfried Nancy’s position untenable?
Comments like Nancy’s in which he is suggesting that he is singing from the same hymn sheet as the board won’t whet the appetitie for Celtic fans.
For those wanting him sacked as well, it’s the sort of comment that somebody says when they know they won’t be out of work any time soon.
Rightly or wrongly, the Frenchman doesn’t look like he is going, but he needs to start saying things that are going to get supporters onside.
