The perfect role Ignacio Laquintana could play at Celtic highlighted by 2022 media report

Celtic are actively looking in the market to recruit new players and have identified the right wing as an area for improvement.

Hyunjun Yang has become the Hoops’ unlikely saviour in recent weeks but is facing no real challenge from Michel-Ange Balikwisha and James Forrest.

Even after Wilfried Nancy’s sacking, the club are still looking to bolster their ranks and have looked at the likes of Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Laquintana.

It seemed like Jocelin Ta Bi would be joining, only for an unnamed Premier League club to hijack the Ta Bi deal.

Laquintana is still on the cards, though, and could join in a loan to buy offer. Question marks over his role have rightly been asked, but one report shows where he could thrive.

Is this the sort of player Celtic should be targeting?

‘Nacho’ Laquintana could be the perfect impact sub at Celtic

Away from the starting XI, the one thing you could say that Celtic truly lack is an injection of pace.

Daizen Maeda, Sebastian Tounekti and Yang are all blessed with rapid speed, but the rest of the side has a considerable drop-off.

If the Uruguay international did join, he could be the person to solve that problem.

A media report from 2022 detailed the impact the right winger made when he came on for Penarol against Deportivo Maldonado.

ESPN.Pe described the 26-year-old’s performance as “the catalyst that ended up turning the game around.”

It added: “He came on in the 56th minute, replacing Nicolas Rossi, and from the first moment on the field, he showed that he would be unstoppable.

“The speedy Penarol player came off the bench, was unstoppable for Deportivo Maldonado, and ended up turning the story of the match in Fernandina in favor of Penarol.”
