Andy Walker reacts to what he’s hearing about Raheem Sterling possibly joining Celtic from Chelsea

Raheem Sterling was a fresh-faced teenager when he was managed by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.

Now, the Chelsea winger is towards the latter stages of his career, struggling, and not even making the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge.

Celtic have lost a lot of goals in 2025, starting with Kyogo Furuhashi leaving in January, and then Nicolas Kuhn during the 2025 summer transfer window.

The feeling is that the champions of Scotland haven’t properly addressed this issue, hence why every name under the sun has been linked and touted to make a switch to Glasgow, including Sterling.

Raheem Sterling to Celtic?

Sterling has no future at Chelsea. When Enzo Maresca first arrived last summer, he loaned out the player to Arsenal and hasn’t used him since.

That’s one of the reasons why, during the summer window, and since it has been closed, people like Ally McCoist have been stating that Sterling ‘could do a job at Celtic.’

When Andy Walker heard about that, he simply dismissed it and made it clear that it’s not going to happen, as he told Go Radio.

Paul Cooney: “I see Ally McCoist, maybe on talkSPORT, he was saying, ‘Raheem Sterling could do a job for Celtic.’ I mean, he is on £300k-a-week, but could you see him coming on loan?”

Walker: “No, no. I don’t see that at all. I don’t know how much Chelsea would be prepared to take, but Celtic are going nowhere near that.

Barry Ferguson: “I saw him post something that was on Sky last week. They asked the manager about their treatment and training at night alone. How tough it must be with the level that he has played at.

“There are two players at Chelsea (Disasi and Sterling) who are way out of it, at this moment in time.”

Walker: “I like Maresca’s response. ‘My dad worked from 2 every morning till 10 pm.’ He said, ‘that’s tough. Being a footballer isn’t tough.’

Sterling’s numbers since leaving Manchester City

Don’t get it wrong, Sterling has had an outstanding career, scoring a high volume of goals and picking up a countless number of trophies.

But timing in football can be a killer, as the 30-year-old’s call to leave Manchester City in 2022 has proven to be a nightmare.

In the following campaign, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City would go on to win the Treble, and Sterling would finish in the Premier League’s bottom half with Chelsea.

Since then, the versatile forward, who has 123 Premier League goals to his name, is probably lucky to get on the bench, never mind score another goal.
