Celtic are dipping into the South American waters again for a left-back.
Everyone remembers the forgetful spell of Alexandro Bernabei and his troubles in Glasgow, as Celtic are now hoping that potential new signing Marcelo Saracchi of Boca Juniors provides different answers.
Bernabei couldn’t cement his place in Celtic’s starting XI, and he was rightfully moved on during the January transfer window when he joined Internacional of Brazil on a permanent basis.
But now Celtic are close to signing Saracchi, and the Boca fans had some interesting takes on this possible sale.

Boca Juniors fans react to Marcelo Saracchi and Celtic transfer links
It seems as though a large proportion of Boca supporters are happy to see Saracchi leave; it’s just a case of they have the same issues Celtic fans have, and that’s not trusting their board to invest.
Added to that, if Saracchi does join the champions of Scotland, then it pushes Frank Fabra further up the left-back pecking order, and that’s something their fans don’t want.
Either way, the Boca supporters don’t seem to be too annoyed at this possible deal, and that indicates where he stands in their pecking order of importance.
@NahuelRusti is seemingly surprised that Saracchi is leaving before Frank Fabra: ‘It’s unbelievable that Saracchi is about to leave and the Colombian (Fabra) is still at the club. He’s going to eat up every single full-back that comes to the club. What a disgrace.’
@WaalterCABJ with an interesting response: ‘Sergio Ramos 2026.’
@nikolas_lizondo isn’t happy Boca won’t use the Saracchi to enhance the squad, sound familiar, Celtic fans? “Boca has no plans to use it” 4 months without winning, and they don’t think about reinforcing the squad even more, the most petty and stingy management in history.’
This Boca fan named the players he wants to leave alongside Saracchi, as @SebHernansal added: ‘But García, Fabra, and Janson continue warming the bank bench.’
@Joako__Sosa questioned who at Celtic is playing Football Manager that they want to sign Saracchi: ‘Who will be playing FM at Celtic to sign Saracchi, huh?’
@Labocatw thanked the left-back for his services: ‘URGENT: ANOTHER BOSTERO WHO’S LEAVING. The departure of the chicken #Saracchi to Celtic in Scotland is VERY ADVANCED. It would be a LOAN WITH OPTION TO BUY. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, DEAR CHICKEN!’
@IsmaelBarr66731 lauded the player’s qualities, but it could be sarcasm: ‘And the Sarachi chicken is a good player with lots of potential!’
@TermodelCabj was happy with Saracchi being a sub: ‘Very strange everything surrounding Saracchi, he was a perfectly decent substitute, but I choose to believe he was a rotten apple that’s better to get rid of (like Marcos R.). Time will tell.’
@0800em is hoping the buy option comes through: ‘I hope he plays a lot so we can get rid of him, he’s not for Boca.’
Another Boca fan who feels a ‘very strange’ call is being made, as @PatitoBostero12 added: ‘Very strange decision, if Blanco catches a cold, Fabra has to play!!!! The only option is that they’re thinking of Costa as the third substitute, otherwise it’s incomprehensible.’
@Mateo_Peralta thinks Saracchi is a worse option than Bernabeí: ‘
It’s astonishing that after playing in the 2nd division with Levante and being the second/third full-back at Boca, Celtic came looking for him. Bernabeí was a star at Lanús when he went to Celtic, and they sent him back to South America… now they went after an even worse one @JulianV_27.’
@HPerei__ questioned the number of games Saracchi has played in his career: ‘In 10 years of his career, the guy played 244 matches. 24 matches a year, any chubby guy from around here who plays once a week with his work buddies plays more matches a year than this guy.’
Saracchi’s numbers for Boca
The positive for Celtic supporters is that Saracchi has played in Europe, and he was recently at Levante in Spain, as well as putting on thev heavy jersey of Galatasaray in Turkey.
But on the pain, in the pressure cooker of playing for Boca, one of South America’s biggest clubs, he has played a bit-part role.
| Club | Games | Goals | Assists | Clean Sheets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boca Juniors | 52 | 4 | 5 | 20 |
It’s clear that he will be Kieran Tierney’s cover following Greg Taylor’s exit, but will that mean Hayato Inamura moves on?
Only time will tell.
