Brendan Rodgers is heading into the final 12 months of his Celtic contract.

Everyone at Celtic is hoping that Rodgers will extend his stay in Glasgow, and push to continue the club’s dominance on the domestic stage.

One way to do that is by giving Rodgers what he wants in the transfer market, and this summer is going to be very important.

One of the main areas that needs to be addressed is bringing in that striker because Kyogo Furuhashi wasn’t replaced after his exit in the winter.

It will become even more important if Daizen Maeda also leaves in the summer following his 33 goals in all competitions during the recently concluded campaign.

But one man, who was linked to replace Kyogo during the winter transfer window, has now been released by his club in the English Premier League.

Danny Ings’ transfer to West Ham just didn’t work out, so it isn’t a surprise that he is being released by the London club ahead of the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

Back in the winter, strikers’ names were being thrown about to replace Kyogo, and Ings was linked with Celtic.

Celtic don’t put money on the table for players with no resale value, and Ings certainly doesn’t have that, but he is a free transfer, so will that change things?

It’s something the champions of Scotland should look at because he would be a great addition to the forward line.

Ings’ record under Brendan Rodgers

Ings played for numerous English clubs during his career, including for Liverpool, where he worked under Rodgers.

Overall, the experienced hitman played 240 matches in England’s top-flight, scoring 72 goals and supplying 24 assists.

Only a handful of them were under the stewardship of Rodgers
