Several Motherwell players have been linked with Celtic this summer, but you can rub Calum Ward’s name off the list.

The Motherwell goalkeeper has secured a move to English Championship side Queens Park Rangers on Thursday afternoon.

It has previously been suggested that Celtic were looking at Ward, as Martin O’Neill aims to sign a new keeper for the new season.

Viljami Sinisalo is Celtic’s number one right now, but his position is under threat, even if Ward won’t be taking his place following his transfer to QPR.

QPR sign Celtic-linked Calum Ward for ‘£800k’

Back in 2023, Celtic signed Sinisalo from Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £1 million.

For the most part, the Finnish international has played a back-up role to the now-retired Kasper Schmeichel, but he currently holds the main gloves.

It has now been suggested by Anthony Joseph on social media that Ward has moved to QPR for ‘£800k’, and he has penned a three-year deal with the London club.

Have Celtic missed out on a bargain deal?

Celtic love a bargain deal. That’s proven by how long they are taking to sign Marcelo Saracchi from Boca Juniors.

But Ward was outstanding for a Motherwell side last season that probably played the best football in the Scottish Premiership.

Given how much Celtic dominate matches, it’s not just about possessing those shot-stopping abilities, but also what you do with the ball at your feet, and there weren’t many better than Ward last term.

Elijah Just is still a Motherwell player, and many Celtic fans are hoping they snap him up because it seems like the champions of Scotland are missing out on a few bargain transfers here.

Not only do the Hoops know and understand these players’ games inside out, but they have also proven that they can perform in the Scottish Premiership.

While it’s a different pressure playing for Celtic. It’s still worth taking a punt on these high-performing Motherwell players, because you are not paying crazy amounts of money for their services, which could then harm you down the line.
