It’s not easy making a name for yourself at Celtic.
The club might be lifting trophy after trophy, but it all comes with high expectations and pressure like no other.
During the recently concluded season, Brendan Rodgers guided Celtic to the double, including using a total of four senior centre-backs during that period.
Cameron Carter-Vickers is the main guy at the back, alongside 2023/24 breakthrough star Liam Scales, 2024 summer capture Auston Trusty, and one of Rodgers’ first signings from his second spell in charge, Maik Nawrocki.
Scales and Trusty have been in and out of the XI all season long, with Carter-Vickers, when he is fit, always starting, but it’s a different story altogether for the man from Poland.
Maik Nawrocki has been backed to leave Celtic
During the summer of 2023, Celtic paid £4.3 million for Nawrocki’s talents from Legia Warsaw, but he just hasn’t got going in Glasgow.
Jim Duffy was asked about the 24-year-old’s future, and he thinks his time is up at Celtic and under Rodgers, as he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
This is despite Duffy thinking that the Poland star has done ‘pretty well’ during the limited time he has been on the pitch.
“I was looking at some of the summer transfer gossip,” said Roger Hannah. “Maik Nawrocki’s, there is talk of him going back to his native Poland.
“Looking at him. He has had very few opportunities at Celtic. For the sake of his career. Do you see him moving on this summer?”
Duffy responded: “Yeah, it’s a difficult one again, because when he has gone in, he has done pretty well. I think it looks as though he has potential.”
Nawrocki’s bit-part Celtic career in numbers
It’s crazy to think that, during Nawrocki’s lack of game time at Celtic, the two occasions he has been forced into the deep end are during two Glasgow derbies.
On both occasions, he has done well, yet time and time again, he finds himself either on the bench or not even in the matchday squad.

It’s probably best for Nawrocki’s career that he does leave because Rodgers clearly doesn’t fancy him, and he is just halting his career by warming the bench.
Plus, any transfer fee received for him would allow Celtic to invest that in another centre-back that Rodgers would actually play.
