‘Is big Ange Postecoglou coming back’ – Celtic fans react to the latest striker transfer rumour

One of the issues Celtic are yet to resolve is the striker department.

There are a few strikers on Celtic’s books ahead of the new Premiership season, not including Player of the Year, Daizen Maeda, because he might be required on the left flank due to Jota’s long-term injury.

But still, those players – Adam Idah, Johnny Kenny, and summer signing Callum Osmand – aren’t providing fans with much hope.

One niche market that has worked well for Celtic over the years is the Japanese market, and Ange Postecoglou has played a huge role in that.

Go back to his time in charge, he used the J League to sign some players who are now Celtic legends, such as Kyogo Furuhashi, and now the club could be using that road again.

Have Celtic found their next striker?

It seems as though Celtic are still actively looking for a striker, and a deal could be close because Shin Yamada’s name has popped up.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has claimed that Celtic have agreed a deal with Kawasaki Frontale worth ‘£1.5 million’ for Yamada’s talents.

‘Celtic are closing in on the signing of Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada,’ wrote Joseph.

‘It’s understood the clubs have agreed a deal worth £1.5m for the Japan international. Yamada, 25, is currently in South Korea playing an international tournament, but is expected to travel after.’

The news has reached the Celtic supporters, and many are unhappy that the club are going down this road again, despite the success of someone like Kyogo, thanks to Postecoglou.

Yes, many would prefer that proven goalscorer to be signed, but it has been clear for a long time that the champions of Scotland just don’t fish in that market.

That’s why there were some negative comments about the Yamada rumours.

@drago_el_diablo thinks Celtic might have a player on their hands: ‘This lad’s decent wee player, btw. 🔥’

@bazza2774 isn’t happy: ‘More penny pinching.’

Another Celtic fan who isn’t getting his hopes up, @JustCmnCents added: ‘Oh great. So exciting. Can’t wait 😞 🫤’

@Bobbybentlegs thinks Rodgers doesn’t want Shin Yamada: ‘More players Brendan doesn’t want.’

@EdBhoy1888 thinks this puts more pressure on Idah: ‘He’s signing as our 3rd/4th choice. Huge reliance on Idah to fully step up this season.’

No pressure on Yamada from @penecelt: ‘The new Kyogo.’

@Bryzo34 with a three-word response: ‘Another weird signing.’

@tamkelly18 questioned if Postecoglou is returning: ‘Celtic and the Japanese market is big Ange coming back?’

@COYBIG18 isn’t like what he has been seen this summer: ‘The summer of punt continues, inspiring stuff.’

@THE_ADZ_PLAYS thinks Yamada won’t play: ‘Another striker that won’t play. That’s Osmand, Kenny, and now him.’

@Shoops88 is confused: ’25 and playing for Japan in an international tournament… but it’s not the actual Japan first team 🤔 someone make it make sense.’
