At the top of Celtic’s shopping list for deadline day is a new striker.

Adam Idah is close to joining Swansea City and Brendan Rodgers is keen to ensure he has enough options going into January at a minimum.

Talks with Kasper Dolberg are still ongoing as Celtic and Anderlecht try to thrash out an agreement but in a bid to keep their options open, a new name has entered the fray.

Celtic exploring loan deal for Sekou Mara

Former 67 Hail Hail writer and trusted Celtic correspondent Mark Hendry has revealed in his latest Celtic Substack post that the Hoops have looked at forward Sekou Mara.

The 23-year-old, who is at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, is yet to play for the club so far this season and could now come to Celtic Park before the end of the window.

Mara was previously at Southampton before swapping England for France in 2024 for a deal worth more than £10m.

Last season, he scored three goals in 27 games.

Who is Celtic transfer target Sekou Mara?

Sekou Mara is a 23-year-old striker currently playing for Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

Born in Paris on 30 July 2002, Mara began his professional career at Bordeaux and made history by becoming the youngest player to score a league goal for the club in almost 14 years.

Bordeaux then sold Mara to Southampton in 2022 due to financial issues but the striker never managed to nail down a regular spot in the side.

His time at Strasbourg has been underwhelming, but a new lease of life in Scotland could help him.
