Brondby chief executive Cartsen V. Jensen has dealt Celtic a big blow regarding any ambitions they harbour in trying to sign Mathias Kvistgaarden.
The striker has been linked with a move to Parkhead since the summer transfer window, when Celtic’s reported £4m bid to lure Kvistgaarden to Glasgow was rejected by Brondby.
Kvistgaarden is absolutely aware of the interest clubs hold in him, commenting in November that he is always thinking about his future.
Brondby are said to value the Danish 21-year-old at upwards of £7.5m – possibly as much as £8.5m – and a report stated near the end of 2023 that the Bhoys were willing to reignite their pursuit of him in January.
No second bid has been submitted yet, but Celtic have effectively now been informed anyway that Kvistgaarden is not for sale in January.
Mathias Kvistgaarden Celtic blow?

Brondnby chief executive Cartsen V. Jensen has been speaking to the Danish press and iron out his stance on player sales in January to outlet Bold.dk.
Jensen said: “We are in a strong financial position, where we must take advantage of the sporting success we achieved in the autumn.
“We have made a decision that we have entered a transfer window where we do not sell our best players.
“In other words, we are not going to sell out of the opportunities we have created in the autumn in order to go all the way this season in the Super League.
“That’s why we have to keep the squad together. The current squad has only been together for three and a half months.
“The potential is great. We have a strong belief that we can develop and get better with the group we have assembled.
“That is why it is important to keep our squad together. When you’re young and very talented it’s about being purposeful and ambitious, but also with the right amount of patience.”
Jensen has effectively shut the door on any potential interest Celtic have in Kvistgaarden, as the club look to strengthen in attacking positions.
This transfer has never really seemed realistic for Celtic to do, mainly as a result of the hefty price tag attached to the Danish U21 man.
The Hoops hierarchy are extremely unlikely to offer upwards of £7.5m for a player in January so it’s looking fairly clear, especially after Jensen’s comments, that Kvistgaarden won’t be a Celtic star come the end of the current window.
