Celtic-linked Bobby Clark shares Derby County transfer stance after Young Player of the Year award

One of the main items on Celtic’s shopping list this summer is a midfielder.

Celtic don’t need to shop for one midfielder, but several, and that’s before anyone leaves, because that area of the pitch has been one of the biggest problems this season.

One of the rumours doing the rounds in the winter was Bobby Clark being linked with Celtic, with suggestions at the time that a ‘£6 million’ deal was on the table, but nothing materialised.

Since then, Clark, who is on loan at Derby County from RB Salzburg, has continued to shine, including winning the Rams’ Young Player of the Year.

Unfortunately for Clark, he is out injured for the season, but he could return if Derby make the Championship play-offs, which will be decided this weekend, and it seems as though he is keen on staying put in the Midlands.

Perhaps this is a trick Celtic don’t want to miss.

Celtic should move for Bobby Clark as Derby County eye transfer

Of course, if Derby make the Premier League, then from a financial aspect, they will blow any competitors out of the water for Clark’s signature.

According to The Derby Telegraph, Clark is set to return to his parent club, RB Salzburg, in the summer, but he is ‘open to a move’ to Pride Park.

It is noted how the midfielder is currently out injured, but could feature for John Eustace’s side if they reach the play-offs – they are one point outside the top six heading into the final day.

Eustace wants to keep Clark, but at the age of 21, this is the type of fresh blood Celtic need in their midfield.

Callum McGregor needs help, and the likes of Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, for one reason or another, aren’t the long-term options.

If indeed Clark is worth ‘£6 million’, then his calming influence and high potential are what the champions of Scotland need.

Of course, the Hoops need to appoint a new manager for those big calls to be made, but players in the mould of Clark are needed for next season.

Now it’s a case of waiting to see if the powers that be do the right thing, given the mess that has unfolded this campaign.
