Celtic are still in the market for two midfielders by the transfer deadline despite pulling away from negotiations over LAFC man Mateusz Bogusz.
According to reports, the Bhoys have prioritised a move for Augsburg talent Arne Engels over the former Leeds United star, and there is hope that deal can be concluded.
Yesterday, Celtic raised their bid for the Belgium Under-21 international to £10 million. The Bundesliga outfit still want more financial reward for his services, but negotiations continue over a transfer that could reach landmark territory.
Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he wants two midfielders before the cut-off point in light of Matt O’Riley’s departure to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Whittling down their options, Celtic now appear to have turned their attention to another talented operator in the engine room.
Celtic place Alvyn Sanches back on their radar
Alvyn Sanches is a familiar name to Celtic supporters this window; he has been mentioned on several occasions as a player of interest to the club and has previously held talks over a move to Glasgow.
Reportedly available for roughly £3 million-£4.3 million, he would be keen on a switch to Celtic Park after registering 16 goals and seven assists in 86 appearances for Lausanne-Sport across all competitions.

According to Football Scotland, the Switzerland Under-21 international is back on Celtic’s radar as they search for Bogusz alternatives.
Intriguingly, the Hoops considered a move for the playmaker in January before seeing hope scuppered. Sanches was also considered earlier this summer, but Paulo Bernardo was brought in to strengthen the engine room after a successful loan spell last term.
Rodgers believes he has plenty of scope for development, and Celtic’s scouting department are said to have pushed the idea heavily this window.
Celtic need to be speedy to close a deal for Sanches
Deadline Day eve is upon us, so Celtic don’t have any time to waste if Sanches is a genuine target to bolster the midfield ranks.
Supporters have viable concerns regarding why the bulk of the Hoops’ transfer business has been left to the last minute; there has been a whole window to get deals over the line.
Nevertheless, some would say arrivals making their way to Celtic Park would represent a case of better late than never, a stage I think we’ve all entered now with less than two days of market activity remaining.
Hopefully, there can be white smoke in the coming hours as Rodgers looks to add quality, but time is of the essence.
