‘Not put a foot wrong’ – Celtic player told to leave as ‘something isn’t right’ with Brendan Rodgers

The transfer rumour mill will be starting to heat up in the coming weeks.

The 2025 summer transfer window officially opened on June 16, and Celtic already had their first name through the door when they re-signed Kieran Tierney.

That’s one much-needed addition to the defensive line, as fans are now waiting to see what moves Brendan Rodgers will make next.

There has been a lot of noise around Celtic’s centre-backs, whether that’s who the club could sign, or who could head for the exit door.

But Frank McAvennie has made it clear that one player needs to leave, given his current situation in Glasgow.

Maik Nawrocki’s relationship with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

Whenever Maik Nawrocki has put on a Celtic shirt, he hasn’t looked out of line, and that has been the feeling from many fans.

McAvennie is also in that camp and thinks the Poland star ‘hasn’t put a foot wrong’ whenever he has been handed a chance by Rodgers.

Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast, McAvennie thinks ‘something isn’t right’ between Nawrocki and Rodgers, and he feels the centre-back needs to leave during the summer market.

“I feel really sorry for Nawrocki,” said McAvennie.

“He hasn’t put a foot wrong. Anytime he has been asked to come in, he came in, and even when he played without Carter-Vickers and Scales was there, I thought he did really well.

“I don’t know. Brendan, obviously, something isn’t right, because I look at the boy and I think, ‘he deserves a run’. Time will tell. We will see.

“If you aren’t playing boys like that, then I would like to say, ‘go’.”

Nawrocki must be doing something seriously wrong in training for Rodgers to hardly play him, and then not even select him on the bench, at times.

Remember, Celtic paid nearly £5 million for this guy during the summer Rodgers returned to the club, so another question that needs to be posed is who actually pushed for this transfer?

Because his minutes suggest that it wasn’t the man in the Celtic Park dugout.

Regardless of Nawrocki’s situation, Celtic need to bring in another centre-back because Liam Scales and Auston Trusty aren’t exactly setting the world alight.
