Celtic see Fares Ghedjemis queue blocked as Serie A heavyweights circle

Celtic target Fares Ghedjemis looks likely to leave Frosinone in the summer.

Martin O’Neill pushed hard for the winger in the summer, saying that reports linking him to the winger were ‘not a million miles away’.

Born in France and eligible for Algeria, Ghedjemis has excelled in Serie B this season. Just this weekend, he got a goal and an assist in their 2-0 win at Spezia.

After the closure of the window, it emerged that Celtic had agreed a £6 million deal with Frosinone, only for the player to reject the move.

This might be explained by the fact that he’s now being linked with some of the heavyweights of the Italian top-flight.

Celtic target Fares Ghedjemis targeted by Serie A duo

According to Tuttosport, Atalanta and Como are considering summer bids for the 23-year-old, who has registered nine goals so far this season. Frosinone are reportedly demanding an eight-figure fee.

Given that Ghedjemis is a left-footed right-winger, the interest from Como is ironic.

The newly-rich Lombardy club signed Nicolas Kuhn from Celtic last summer, but the German has failed to have the desired impact since making his £16.5 million move.

Managed by Cesc Fabregas, Como spent €126.89 million upon their promotion to the top-flight this season. They currently sit seventh in the table.

Atalanta sacked Ivan Juric after a poor start to their campaign, but are unbeaten in the league in 2026 under new boss Raffaele Palladino.

Despite going all-in for the winger last month, it looks like the Hoops are well behind in the race ahead of the summer.

Celtic also chased Damir Redzic late in the window, but the Hungarian ended up opting to join Red Bull Salzburg, despite the Hoops (as well as Rangers) offering higher transfer fees.

Joel Mvuka ended up being the chosen winger – the Norwegian has been left out of the squad for both of Celtic’s fixtures since he was hooked at half-time in his debut against Dundee.

Joel Mvuka’s recent appearance record is uninspiring to say the least.

Chris Sutton on Celtic boss Martin O’Neill

Speaking for the Daily Record, Chris Sutton was unconvinced that O’Neill is fully satisfied with the club’s January transfer window.

He said: “He was in decent spirits and he declared himself happy with the business done by the club. I’m not so convinced, as I suspect O’Neill might have been putting on a brave face.

“Is he really happy?

“O’Neill is never going to say otherwise but I have my doubts, particularly about the players arriving on deadline day.

“Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka have struggled in recent times and might be coming in with points to prove.

“Benjamin Arthur is a highly rated young player at Brentford but he’s had limited first team exposure and it would only take an injury or suspension and he might be getting thrown into games like the derby at Ibrox.

“That could be a big ask. The feeling that remains is my old Celtic manager could do with all the help he can get.”
