Celtic have reached an agreement to complete the loan move of SC Freiburg striker Junior Adamu on transfer deadline day.

Junior Adamu was on Celtic’s radar over the last 48 hours and it seems that an agreement has been reached to sign the Bundesliga striker on loan.

Celtic agree loan deal for Junior Adamu

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg delivered a late-night transfer update for Celtic supporters on social media with Adamu, hopefully, the first of many signings today.

Taking to X, Plettenberg said, “EXCL: Junior Adamu to Celtic – DONE DEAL.

“Verbal agreement reached with SC Freiburg. The 24 y/o versatile striker is already on site. The loan deal will be finalised on Monday. #CelticFC

“Exclusive news, set to be made official soon.”

Celtic now have two new strikers in the building and with the return of Kelechi Iheanacho, Martin O’Neill’s forward options are looking extremely healthy now.

How Junior Adamu converted to striker from left-back

Interestingly, Adamu wasn’t always a striker. When the incoming Celtic striker joined RB Salzburg in 2022, the Austrian explained how he used to be a pacey fullback.

Adamu told RB Salzburg’s official website, “I started as a left-back, but I used to run up and down a lot, and I managed to score a few goals.

“At some stage GAK invited me to a trial, as they were impressed how much I ran about the pitch.

“I came to the trial with three others, and I was the only one taken on, which really made me feel sorry for the others.

“I was a left-back there first too, until GAK noticed that my strength was in goalscoring.”
