Kelechi Iheanacho was not Celtic’s first choice as a striker signing.
After months of links with the likes of Louis Munteanu, David Strelec, and eventually Kasper Dolberg, Brendan Rodgers saw the Transfer deadline pass without finding a proper replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah.
The situation led the Hoops to once again rely on Rodgers’ phonebook with the acquisition of Kelechi Iheanacho as a free agent, following the player’s release from Sevilla.
The Celtic fans’ reaction to the club’s transfer business has been vehemently negative, especially with the recent announcement that several new signings have not been registered for the Europa League campaign.
Across the city, they have spent money on a number of attacking players, making Celtic’s lack of movement even more baffling – but for Celts hero Peter Grant, one in particular would have made a handy signing for Rodgers.
Peter Grant says Celtic should have signed Bojan Miovski
Bojan Miovski was often a thorn in the side for Celtic whilst at Aberdeen, establishing himself as the main man in the Dons’ attack.
With the Macedonian striker now a Rangers player having made his debut in Sunday’s Glasgow Derby, a discussion on The Go Radio Football Show.
With Iheanacho coming in the door as Celtic’s alternative, Grant saw Miovski as a more proven quantity, in a conversation with Richard Foster and Rob Mcaclean:

Grant said: “I think he [Miovski] is a very good striker. I think Celtic and Rangers could’ve went for him two or three seasons ago. When he became available again, I’d have been in the pot for him.
“I think he works the line really well, he looks to get in behind you, he wants to work hard for his teammates, he lays the ball off and wants to get in the box, and all good strikers do that.”
Foster quizzed him by asking: “Would you have signed him for Celtic?” as Grant said yes.
Maclean added: “Rather than Iheanacho?” as Grant responded: “I don’t know Iheanacho.”
“That’s maybe the point though, isn’t it!” Maclean said, with Grant agreeing.
Miovski returns to Scotland hoping to prove himself again after a disappointing spell in Spain – he had a quiet debut against the champions.
Is Iheanacho fit enough to start playing for Celtic?
Concerns remain over Iheanacho, particularly when it comes to his match fitness.
The player’s pre-season at Sevilla ended early when their manager decided that he was no longer in his plans – this eventually resulted in his contract being terminated.
With Dolberg now officially an Ajax player and currently active in the Denmark squad, it is a case of what could have been for the Hoops’ attack.
Time will tell whether Iheanacho is the striker Celtic need, or whether Grant’s suggestion comes back to haunt Brendan Rodgers.
