Celtic have been involved in a long-winded pursuit regarding Adam Idah this summer as they continue to try and land the Norwich City striker.
Brendan Rodgers made it clear he wanted Idah back at Celtic Park following his heroics in last season’s Scottish Cup final, which capped a fine loan spell where he registered nine goals in 19 appearances.
Nevertheless, Norwich have held firm amid incessant speculation surrounding the Republic of Ireland international. Many thought he would already be a permanent fixture in Glasgow by now, but that hasn’t transpired.
Last week, reports suggested that talks between all parties had reached an advanced stage, and there was a willingness for negotiations to move forward with the aim of a deal being done.
Despite this, he came off the bench for the Canaries against Oxford United in their Sky Bet Championship opener last weekend after being named in their matchday squad. That prolonged the wait for confirmation by a few days, but an update has now emerged on his future.
Celtic still confident of Adam Idah deal after further talks
According to Football Scotland, Celtic are ‘inching closer’ to a deal for Idah after holding further talks with Norwich over a permanent transfer throughout the weekend.
The outlet claim the fee needed to seal the move would surpass £7 million. On the other hand, they still see the Cork-born frontman as someone who could have a future at Carrow Road.

No agreement has been struck yet, but Celtic are ‘confident’ they will be able to rubberstamp Idah’s arrival before the end of the transfer window.
During pre-season, Norwich internally disciplined him for showing up late to part of their camp, amplifying speculation that the Irishman could finally be on his way to Glasgow.
Celtic need to seal Adam Idah’s signature urgently
Kyogo Furuhashi and Mikey Johnston were both withdrawn in the Bhoys’ 2-0 victory over Hibernian yesterday, leaving Rodgers with no recognised striker for the dying embers of his side’s triumph at Easter Road.
Naturally, Johnston is a wide player anyway, so concerns surrounding Celtic’s forward line were already prominent.
Having only one actual centre-forward on the books in Furuhashi isn’t a game worth playing. If the Japan international gets injured, or his ongoing shoulder problem, the reason why he was substituted, flares up again, the options to lead the line are few and far between.
Idah is tried and tested after his exploits last season. Celtic should be looking to get him through the door urgently to bolster their firepower in the final third.
