Jamie Vardy is one of football’s greatest stories.

The Leicester City legend went from non-league forward to Premier League title winner, terrorising defenders for well over a decade.

After 13 years with Leicester, Vardy decided to leave and look for his new adventure. He is someone that Brendan Rodgers knows well from his time at the Foxes, as well as Celtic’s number one, Kasper Schmeichel, who he shared many of those memories with.

Celtic need a striker and have been backed to sign the 38-year-old this summer to help provide competition for Adam Idah and co.

Andy Walker thinks Vardy would be a good signing for the Hoops, but they could face competition from an Italian giant.

Napoli want Jamie Vardy

A whole host of clubs have been linked with the former England international throughout the summer.

Rangers were linked with Vardy but those reports look wide off the mark, however, Napoli have emerged as a new contender.

According to the Daily Mail, the Serie A champions are considering a move for the forward after learning that Romelu Lukaku will be out for three months due to injury.

Other options such as Nicolas Jackson have also been considered but given that Vardy is free and still has a desire to play at the top level, Antonio Conte could look to him as a quick fix in Lukaku’s absence.

Jamie Vardy would be a great short-term signing for Celtic

It would be easy to turn your nose up at Vardy because of his age, but he still has a lot to give.

At 38, he has lost that killer pace, but is more than capable of beating players and crucially, can still put the ball in the back of the net.

For the three younger strikers in the squad he would be the perfect mentor, helping to spur them on and also take some of the pressure off.

Additionally, if the club are also yet to find a true number nine ready to lead the line, a short-term deal for Vardy provides them with extra breathing room.
