Celtic have their first striker signing in the building in the form of Tomas Cvancara.

But will Celtic add another to their ranks before the January transfer window slams shut? If so, Tawanda Maswanhise could be that guy.

Maswanhise has been linked with Celtic, and you even saw Martin O’Neill in attendance at Fir Park to watch him in action for Motherwell against Ross County in the Scottish Cup over the weekend.

But whilst the Zimbabwe star scored in that game, as well as netting 15 goals in all competitions this term, Peter Grant expressed his doubts over the player joining Celtic.

Peter Grant states the issues with Tawanda Maswanhise joining Celtic from Motherwell

Motherwell have been dubbed the best footballing side in Scotland this season, and unfortunately, Celtic were on the receiving end of that in December when Wilfried Nancy was in charge, and he was beaten at Fir Park.

Maswanhise didn’t play in that match because he was on Africa Cup of Nations duty, as Grant explained that the former Leicester City man might not have the ‘clinical’ nature to lead the line for the Hoops.

Even though Celtic have struggled big time this season, one thing has remained consistent, and that’s teams sitting deep against them.

With his coaching hat on, Grant explained how Maswanhise, if he were to move to Glasgow, wouldn’t have much space to work with.

Grant thinks that’s an issue for the player, and it’s perhaps a reason why he is unsure about the champions of Scotland adding the Motherwell man to their ranks, as he told Go Radio.

“Maswanhise, for me, for Motherwell, the team suits him, at this moment in time,” said Grant. “But I think he is a player who needs a lot of space to run into.

“At Celtic, you have got to remember, teams are defending deeper against you because they are pushing you back. I don’t see a lot of space in there.

“I am not sure he is a trickster. Is he going to create something that way? It’s his pace that he relies on. I just think if you are stuck on the 18-yard box and you have no space to run into, is he going to be a clinical finisher? I haven’t seen enough of him.

“But what I have seen of him. I think that’s the one thing that has been thrown at him. He has got great pace, but is not a clinical finisher.”
