Celtic urged to rival Rangers in signing Scottish Premiership star pundit ‘really likes’

Celtic’s January transfer window was not exactly perfect.

Only Jeffrey Schlupp arrived on deadline day despite what was expected to be a busy night with a striker to replace Kyogo always on the high priority list.

The Hoops failed to get that done and fans described their business as “shocking” in the aftermath of the 11pm deadline.

It was perhaps a harsh assessment of the window as a whole after Jota made an incredible return before crying happy tears upon scoring his first goal back as a Celtic player.

Nevertheless, it saw Paul Tisdale and the recruitment team come under some pressure even if manager Brendan Rodgers refused to point fingers or “fall out” with anyone over a lack of movement.

Celtic fans were not happy with January transfer window business

But it means the summer window, when it comes, is even more important with further progression in the Champions League demanded once again next season.

One player who has been impressive this term with Dundee in the Scottish Premiership has been Josh Mulligan in the right-back position.

The 22-year-old has managed 27 appearances for the Dens Park side this campaign so far and chipped in with four assists in that time.

Alistair Johnston is currently Celtic’s top right-back with Anthony Ralston a solid back-up, but Stephen McGinn believes the league leaders should consider a switch for the defender.

With Rangers already linked with the player, McGinn believes Rodgers’ side could move for him to add to their strength, prevent Gers from landing him and creating a deeper roster.

And though he may not be ready for the Champions League stage, there’s no reason to say he won’t in future.

Stephen McGinn urges Celtic to sign Josh Mulligan

“I really like Mulligan,” McGinn told Go Radio. “(He has) been moved to right-back.

“I would go and sign him if I was Celtic or Rangers. Just look at the position. (James) Tavernier hasn’t got long left in his career.

“They will be looking for a right back.”

Celtic certainly have the financial clout over their rivals to sign a player of Mulligan’s stature should they wish to make that happen.
