Hugh Keevins tells Celtic player he will join a ‘smaller club’ if he leaves amid Brendan Rodgers’ plea

It has been another strong week for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.

Despite some negative off-field noise regarding how the January transfer window panned out, the work and performance on the field of play hasn’t dropped.

That was proven as Celtic beat Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, days after putting six past Dundee in the Premiership.

Another Treble is on for Rodgers, especially after Rangers humiliated themselves and got knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park on Sunday.

To think that, by the end of the season, Celtic could lift the Treble, yet lose two senior players is something, with one of them already out of the door.

Kyogo Furuhashi joined Rennes last month in a surprise early exit and Celtic’s starting left-back Greg Taylor can follow suit.

Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic in the summer, as Taylor’s contract at Parkhead is due to expire and there hasn’t been any progression in penning a new deal.

Rodgers has pleaded for months for Taylor to stay, but nothing has been signed yet and you presume it points towards the 27-year-old leaving.

Hugh Keevins labelled Taylor an ‘excellent’ player, but wanted to remind him that if he heads for the exit door, then it’s to a team that’s ‘smaller’ than the one he is currently playing for, as he told Clyde 1 Superscorebord.

“I think he has been an excellent player for Celtic,” said Keevins. “It would be disappointing for the club to lose him.

“Brendan Rodgers made a perfectly logical case there that in a season that might be 60 games long, he isn’t going to play every game and neither will Kieran Tierney.

“Greg Taylor should remember one thing, I think. If he goes, then it will be to a club smaller than Celtic and I would hazard a guess at less money than he gets at Celtic, so it’s up to him, of course, it is, it’s an individual decision to take. He has been fantastic for Celtic. If he wants to go, then Brendan Rodgers won’t stand in his way. But there is room for Tierney and Taylor.”

Taylor and Dinamo Zagreb ‘rumours’

Celtic faced Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League this season and they consider themselves the biggest club in Croatia.

It’s touch and go if they secure Champions League football for the next campaign, as they are five points behind in the title race, but Taylor could be heading to Croatia’s capital.

Keevins reacted to those ‘rumours’ and shared that he has been ‘reliably informed’ that it’s not true, which is information 67 Hail Hail also brought to Celtic fans from their sources.

“There were rumours that he had signed a pre-contract with Dinamo Zagreb,” added Keevins. “I am reliably informed that’s not true, so talks will go on.

“But I really do believe there is room for Taylor and Tierney.”
