Celtic were not the ‘right club’ for Kasper Dolberg as striker’s agent gives his side of the story

Kasper Dolberg was identified as Celtic’s main striker target ahead of transfer deadline day.

The Hoops entered into negotiations with Anderlecht regarding the Danish forward, but their first offer was deemed insufficient by the Belgians.

Moreover, it was proving difficult for Celtic to convince Dolberg himself that moving to Glasgow was the right decision.

Ajax then entered the fray and Dolberg’s heart was firmly set on returning to the Dutch club he scored 45 goals for between 2016 and 2019.

Now, Dolberg’s agent has broken his silence to give his version of events.

Kasper Dolberg’s agent on transfer deadline day drama

Dolberg’s agent Dominic Vieira has told FC Afkicken that he and Anderlecht had agreed upon a transfer exit fee if he was to move on during the window, but the right switch did not become available.

Ajax then contacted Dolberg’s party late on Monday and they wasted no time in getting a deal done.

Vieira explained: “I want to thank Anderlecht enormously. They kept their word, and I want to emphasize that. The chairman has resigned, but everyone made an effort.

“And I think that’s very nice. Kasper is also a good person and did well at Anderlecht. It was a fruitful collaboration.

“There were agreements with Anderlecht about a certain sum, but the right club never materialized.

“When Ajax contacted us very late after Brian Brobbey’s departure, we were immediately enthusiastic. It was going to be Ajax.

“It’s a step up, and for Kasper, it’s coming home. Playing in the Champions League.”

Celtic have signed Kelechi Iheanacho and eye another forward

Celtic were able to offer Europa League football to Dolberg, but even then it just didn’t seem like the 27-year-old was entirely captivated with a move to Scotland.

Ajax will play Champions League league phase football this season, but even without that added carrot, Dolberg would likely have signed for the Dutch giants anyway.

Celtic have gone on to replace Idah with Kelechi Iheanacho after the Nigerian was released from his Sevilla contract on deadline day.

The Hoops are also interested in free agents Patrick Bamford and Emmanuel Dennis having left Leeds United and Nottingham Forest respectively.
