Charlie Mulgrew expects Brendan Rodgers to ‘replace’ Celtic star despite ‘great campaign’

Could Celtic spring a few surprises in the transfer market this summer?

Brendan Rodgers secured two more trophies last term, but it’s fair to say that there were still a fair few clouds hovering over Celtic Park.

In truth, nothing out of the ordinary has happened so far, because Kieran Tierney is back, and that was known for a while, including Ross Doohan re-joining from Aberdeen.

But the Celtic supporters still have a lot of questions over certain areas of the pitch, as well as individual players within the squad.

One of the areas that needs addressing by Rodgers are the wide areas because Daizen Maeda has gone down the middle and Jota is out injured for the long-term.

But could Celtic take the risk by letting one of their key attackers go this summer?

Nicolas Kuhn has been backed to leave Celtic

Nicolas Kuhn was the best player in Scotland up until the New Year, but then he hit a brick wall and his form fell out of the window.

Despite that, the 25-year-old still scored 21 goals and supplied 15 assists, but Charlie Mulgrew can see him heading for the exit door.

As posted by PLZ Soccer, Mulgrew noted Kuhn’s indifferent form and how Rodgers might now ‘replace him’ with another winger.

“I think Brendan Rodgers will assess the squad and see what is due there,” said Mulgrew. “You would imagine a winger or two would come in.

“Nicolas Kuhn, I don’t know so much. He had a great campaign at the start of the year, and kind of tailed off a wee bit. My opinion would be that Celtic will probably replace him with another winger.

“But, who knows? That’s up to the manager. That’s why the manager is the manager, because he will decide who he wants to keep and who is more valuable to let go, and do we bring somebody else in?”

Where could Kuhn go?

You can’t dispute that when Kuhn was on it, he was out of this world and showcasing some serious quality out wide.

But, not only are Celtic closing in on Benjamin Nygren, but there is also talk that Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha could also arrive.

In the meantime, clubs are being linked with Kuhn, including Premier League interest.
