Charlie Mulgrew urges Celtic to sign ‘brilliant’ out-of-contract Blackburn Rovers star

Celtic are still expected to bulk up their wide areas ahead of the new Premiership season.

With Nicolas Kuhn joining Como and Jota out injured for the long term, it makes it even more paramount that a quality winger enters the building.

Celtic have already signed Benjamin Nygren this summer, who is a versatile attacker, and he has started pre-season pretty well.

But Charlie Mulgrew threw another name in the hat for Brendan Rodgers, and it’s a type of deal that would be right up Celtic’s street.

Celtic urged to sign out-of-contract Blackburn Rovers star Tyrhys Dolan

Mulgrew played for Blackburn Rovers after leaving Celtic in 2016, so he still keeps up with the goings-on at Ewood Park, and he has thrown Tyrhys Dolan’s name into the hat.

Speaking on Go Radio, Mulgrew stated, ‘I would go and sign’ Dolan after his ‘brilliant’ campaign in the colours of Blackburn last time out.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Manchester, is a right-sided winger and is currently a free agent after leaving Rovers at the end of June.

“I think Celtic need another winger,” said Mulgrew. “Wingers, in the past, have played a huge part in everything Celtic are.

“Speed, assists and goals. I think Brendan Rodgers would love a winger who has goal contributions and who can score goals. I think that’s an area that they can improve on.

“Somebody asked there, ‘who I would sign for Celtic?’, I would sign Tyrhys Dolan. He is out of contract with Blackburn, a winger. He was a young lad coming through at Blackburn. He was brilliant last year. He is out of contract, so I would go and sign him.”

What’s interesting here is that Dolan has been linked with Celtic this summer, and with teams’ pre-season preparations already underway, he hasn’t found a new club yet.

Blackburn have gone stale in the English Championship for several years now, but Dolan has been a bright spark amid the gloom.

Dolan mainly operated on the right flank last term, but the powerful ball-carrier can also play as a number ten.

If Celtic can secure the former Rovers star’s signature, then it would be a great addition to a Hoops forward line that is being reshaped this summer.
