The last two transfer windows have been rather interesting and unexpected for Celtic.
From frustrations over who Celtic are or aren’t signing and to the surprise exits of key players.
Back in January, with Celtic pushing for the Treble and also heading towards the playoff stages of the Champions League, the powers that be made the call to sell Kyogo Furuhashi.
It’s not what the doctor ordered for Brendan Rodgers’ side because it left the champions of Scotland short during such a crucial period of the campaign, and some still haven’t got over Kyogo’s call to join Rennes.

Chris Sutton still ‘struggles to get over’ Celtic selling Kyogo Furuhashi
Ahead of the new Premiership season starting at the weekend, Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd were in discussion about what is to come.
Talk turned to transfers, including how Celtic still ‘haven’t replaced’ Kyogo, who has since left Rennes and joined Birmingham City in the English Championship.
Boyd added to that by saying Sutton has ‘struggled to get over’ the Japan star being sold, and the former Hoops striker admitted that it’s true, as he told The Warm Up.
“In the cold light of day, Kyogo, I bang on about Kyogo loads,” said Sutton. “But they needed to replace him in January, and Brendan spoke about that in January, the need to replace him.
“So, they didn’t replace him in January. Haven’t replaced him yet. Nicolas Kuhn has gone. You look at their goals and assists between the two of them last season. They are enormous holes to fill.”
Boyd: “You have struggled to get over that Kyogo one, haven’t you?!”
Sutton: “Yeah, I have, yeah, and rightly so.”
Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn’s goals for Celtic last season
There is no doubt that Celtic’s forward line is weaker compared to last season because it’s not only Kyogo out of the door, but also Nicolas Kuhn joining Como.
The attacking duo provided so much for this Celtic side, and it could be argued that none of them have been replaced yet.
And good luck to anybody who does come in and try to fill their shoes.
- Kyogo and Kuhn’s games in 2024/25: 83
- Goals: 33
- Assists: 19
