Kieran Tierney could be returning to Celtic sooner than people think.
Even before the January transfer window re-opened, there was talk of Celtic signing Tierney from Arsenal and that hasn’t stopped since.
The Scotland international is out of contract in the summer, so he can sign a pre-contract agreement with the Scottish champions.
Celtic already have two left-backs to pick from – first-choice starter Greg Taylor and on-loan star, Alex Valle from Barcelona.
Of course, in order for Tierney to join this month, then one of those would have to leave because it wouldn’t make sense to have three left-backs on your books.
But, on Wednesday, news broke that Valle could head to FC Como in Italy and that could open the door for Tierney to return this month.
In the meantime, the player himself has remained professional, got on with his job at the Emirates and played an interesting role during Arsenal’s north London derby win over Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Declan Rice comments on Kieran Tierney playing left-wing for Arsenal
Given the recent absences of Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest, Celtic could do with some width and attacking quality out wide.
Well, Tierney showcased what he can do for a brief period in the north London derby when he came onto the field in the 77th minute for Leandro Trossard.
Declan Rice commented on Tierney playing on the left flank and how his manager – Mikel Arteta – needs to dip into the market to buy a forward, as posted by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

“We have lost Gabriel Jesus,” said Rice. “I’m sure the manager will look for something because we had to bring Tierney on the left wing.
“We are a bit short there! I wouldn’t be surprised if we do something in the transfer window.”
Tierney has Arsenal fans talking amid talk of Celtic return
Since returning from injury last month, Tierney has only made one start and two sub appearances.
But, every time he has been on the pitch, he has looked like his old self and impressed, it’s just a case of him not getting the minutes and that’s where Celtic come into it.
What’s interesting about his cameo against Spurs is that the Arsenal fans don’t want him to go, especially given the quality he showcased in the final third.
If he does return to Parkhead, then what will be Arsenal’s loss will prove to be Celtic’s gain.
