Fabrizio Romano drops Celtic striker transfer claim involving Graham Potter’s West Ham United

The January transfer window has been rather quiet for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers so far.

But, as the winter transfer window enters the halfway stage, Celtic fans will be hoping the sparks fly and deals get done during the final weeks.

All the talk is about Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic, but Fabrizio Romano dropped a different transfer message on Wednesday morning.

Back in the summer, West Ham United parted ways with David Moyes and appointed Julen Lopetegui as their manager.

But the former Real Madrid boss was sacked this month and replaced by Graham Potter, with the Englishman having to deal with a striker shortage as soon as he entered the building.

Michail Antonio suffered an unfortunate car crash and isn’t expected to play again this season, whilst Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug are sidelined.

And it seems the Hammers, alongside fellow Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, are looking towards Celtic for a striker, but not who you think.

West Ham United and Brighton keen on Celtic striker Daniel Cummings

Daniel Cummings was in the matchday squad for Celtic’s 4-1 win at Ross County over the weekend, but he is yet to make a senior appearance.

Fabrizio Romano has shared on Twitter that West Ham and Brighton are ‘keen’ on the highly-rated Bhoys hitman.

But the champions of Scotland are ‘pushing’ for Cummings to sign a new deal at Parkhead, as the 18-year-old is set to be out of contract in the summer.

‘West Ham and Brighton are both keen on signing 18-year-old Celtic striker Daniel Cummings,’ wrote Romano.

‘With Celtic pushing for him to stay and sign a new deal. 24 goals in 24 games this season for Cummings, out of contract in summer 2025.’

Cummings’ stats for Celtic this season

Celtic splashed big money on Adam Idah in the summer, but he hasn’t scored in the league since November, as pressure is mounting on the Irishman.

If you include Celtic’s dominance at the top, and the fact that they are heading towards another title, then fans want Rodgers to hand youngsters a chance and that includes Cummings.

His stats and goals for Celtic’s younger age groups are worthy of more appearances in the matchday squad, but if the Premier League comes calling, then you can’t blame him for leaving.
