Celtic love to bring back a former player or coach because they have done it on quite a few occasions in recent times.
Martin O’Neill is in the Celtic dugout right now, after his legendary spell at the start of the century, effectively replacing Brendan Rodgers’ second spell in charge, which ended in October.
But as Celtic search for more goals, it isn’t a surprise that Kyogo Furuhashi’s name has been thrown about and suggested as a possible signing during the January transfer window.
Forget about Kyogo returning, and it does seem as though he will remain with Birmingham City; there is a more in-form attacker working wonders in Greece – Georgios Giakoumakis – who would be perfect under O’Neill.
Who are you picking?

Georgios Giakoumakis continues to shine for PAOK as Celtic search for more goals
Giakoumakis left Celtic in 2023, moving to the MLS to play for Atlanta United, where he scored a handful of goals – 24 in 43 matches.
The 31-year-old also had a spell in Mexico during that period, representing Cruz Azul, before joining PAOK in Greece on a season-long loan deal this summer.
Giakoumakis re-united with Greg Taylor, and now the duo are helping their new club lead the standings at the top of the Super League 1 table, as they push for the title in a three-way battle with AEK Athens and Olympiacos.
PAOK beat OFI Crete 3-0 over the weekend, with Giakoumakis scoring for the fourth game in a row, as Taylor also played 90 minutes.
Do you agree with Neil Lennon?
Giakoumakis is showing Celtic’s strikers how it’s done
When you look at Giakoumakis and his time at Celtic, you sense that he was underrated, underused and probably underappreciated.
| Giakoumakis’s games for Celtic | Starts | Goals | Assists | Total minutes |
| 57 | 22 | 26 | 2 | 2,517 |
The same seems to be happening at PAOK this season because he is showcasing his goalscoring qualities once more.
And it could result in a title, if he continues in his current ways.
| Giakoumakis’s games for PAOK | Starts | Goals | Assists | Total minutes |
| 24 | 16 | 11 | 1 | 1,408 |
Yes, Celtic have signed Tomas Cvancara, but the Hoops could still do with a few more goals, as they tussle with Hearts and Rangers for the Premiership title.
Perhaps Giakoumakis could be that guy; not only is he scoring goals right now, but he’s doing it at a higher level than Kyogo, and his profile probably suits O’Neill better.
