Celtic’s pursuit of Calvin Stengs could be about to be derailed.

Celtic’s interest in Stengs first became apparent just under a week ago and, so far, there has been no progress on a potential deal.

Feyenoord are said to be open to negotiating with Celtic as they look to get Stengs off their wage bill this summer.

Stengs broke his media silence after the Celtic rumours first surfaced as he moved to crush rumours accusing him of being injury-prone.

But now, it appears that Celtic’s pursuit of the Dutch international may now have hit a big hurdle.

Serie A side Pisa ‘pursuing a loan deal’ for Celtic target Calvin Stengs

Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph has delivered an update on Stengs and it appears that Serie A club Pisa have now entered the running for his signature.

Joseph said on X, “Pisa have held further talks with Celtic and Leicester City target Calvin Stengs, according to Sky Sport.

“The Serie A club are pursuing a loan deal for the Feyenoord winger.”

With just under six days of the transfer window to go, Celtic still have time to get signings over the line. They will just need to be quick if they really want Stengs.

Calvin Stengs’ most impressive performance ever as Celtic rumours swirl

At just 26, Stengs is entering his peak years as the Feyenoord man negotiates his exit from the Netherlands.

With 286 career appearances spanning four clubs, Stengs’ best-ever performance wasn’t in domestic football.

It was in his last game for the Netherlands where the midfielder burst onto the international scene properly after Stengs hammered in a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Gibraltar.

With Pisa making their move, it’s clear Stengs would be a quality addition to the Celtic first-team squad if the club can get a deal over the line.
