Celtic’s hunt for a striker has been one of the biggest stories this summer.

Despite the Hoops signing Callum Osmand, Brendan Rodgers was still keen to add more firepower to his Celtic frontline.

With Shin Yamada expected to join Celtic in the coming days, that didn’t stop speculation that Odsonne Edouard could also make a return to Paradise this summer.

The iconic Frenchman was pivotal in Celtic’s pursuit of the Quadruple Treble and as his future at Crystal Palace looks in doubt, rumours of a Parkhead return surfaced.

And after Celtic’s pre-season win over Sporting CP last night, Hoops manager Rodgers addressed the Edouard rumours.

Brendan Rodgers admits Odsonne Edouard is not on Celtic’s ‘radar’

Rodgers managed Edouard during his first spell at Celtic as the Frenchman picked up four medals under the Northern Irishman including a treble.

And when asked about the possible Celtic return of the Crystal Palace man, Rodgers appeared to pour cold water on the speculation.

Rodgers told The Scottish Sun, “Odsonne hasn’t been on my radar, to be fair.

“I obviously know him but it’s about a player who will fit into the structure of the team.”

“I’m not worried so much about a big name. It’s about the collective of the team.

“Big names don’t always give you what you need. This team needs hunger, goals and work rate and intensity.

“Big names don’t always give you that. It’s about big players. I just want players who are hungry to learn but also ready now.

“There are lots of players linked with us.”

To be fair to Edouard, he was a big player for Celtic domestically and in Europe during his four-year stay at the club and at just 28, is entering the peak of his career.

Odsonne Edouard’s Crystal Palace career since leaving Celtic

Edouard left Celtic for Crystal Palace in August 2021 for £14m after winning 11 trophies at the Parkhead club.

Since then he has made 103 appearances for the Eagles scoring 21 goals and creating five.

However, last season the French striker made just two appearances and an Edouard Crystal Palace exit could be on the cards.

If he was to return to Celtic, Edouard would absolutely add quality to Hoops’ front line for the upcoming domestic and European campaigns.
