Journalist says Celtic 23-year-old could be replaced, with position targeted

Celtic fans are understandably expectant ahead of the January transfer window opening and hoping that some changes are made to the squad.

Brendan Rodgers has made his noises and expressed the need for better quality to come in so the team can go to the next level.

The only issue is that it’s not easy doing business in the winter and just what can Celtic do and what will they do in the January transfer window?

Interestingly enough, journalist Mark Guidi says Celtic are looking at left-backs to ‘push’ Greg Taylor, with Alexandro Bernabei not really fancied, as he told Go Radio.

The latter isn’t really a surprise because Alexandro Bernabei just hasn’t got going at Parkhead since moving for £3.75 million (Sky Sports) in 2022.

And now this current campaign has got worse because he was left out of Brendan Rodgers’ Champions League squad and he has only played 43 minutes of football this term.

If another left-sided fullback does come in, it will be interesting to see what level of player the team push for and how much money they are willing to put on the table.

Will Alexandro Bernabei leave Celtic?

“I think he’s made it clear that they’ll be working on targets, in fact, I know they are working on targets now for guys for certain positions to get in the door,” said Guidi.

He later added: “They are looking at left-backs also. They are looking at that. It’s an area that is certainly under the microscope.

“That’s nothing against Greg Taylor because he has been brilliant at £2 million and he has been great value.

“If they get anyone in next month, it won’t be easy to overtake him. But what Brendan Rodgers realises is that Bernabei can’t put the pressure on Greg Taylor. He needs to be pushed and Bernabei isn’t the guy to do that.”

The return of Kieran Tierney?

There was a lot of talk in the summer around Kieran Tierney and the Celtic hero making a return, but in the end, he secured a loan move from Arsenal to Real Sociedad.

Now, if Celtic are serious about taking the squad to the next level and if they are looking at left-backs, then surely they will go all in, even if it’s harsh on someone like Taylor?

What is interesting here is that it seems as though Kieran Tierney will still leave Arsenal in the summer, with Aston Villa and Celtic on high alert, according to TEAMtalk.

This is one to re-visit, not in January, but in the summer because it would be something if  Tierney were to return home.
