Players Celtic should keep this summer

Kasper Schmeichel
Made a crucial mistake in the Scottish Cup final which soured his season somewhat, but he’s still an indispensable squad member.
Alistair Johnston
An absolute must keep. Johnston has been an unbelievable replacement for Josip Juranovic since the beginning of 2023.
Greg Taylor
Celtic want to keep Taylor, but the former Kilmarnock left-back seems destined to depart the Hoops after six years and a large collection of trophies.
Auston Trusty
The American hasn’t been the most convincing signing, although he did prove that he could compete at Champions League level alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Jota
The Portuguese winger only just returned in January for a fee of £8m. Currently injured so he won’t be going anywhere, nor should he.
Adam Idah
Idah has many doubters, and it’s true that he could make greater impacts in games. But the man scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, so there’s no desperate need to offload.
Viljami Sinisalo
Sinisalo was a steady deputy for Schmeichel when the big Dane was injured between March and May.
Yang Hyun-jun
Yang was a frustrating player during the 2023/24 season, but in fairness to the winger, he has improved week after week and increased both his goals and assists tallies last campaign.
Luke McCowan
Is McCowan the most underrated Celtic player at the moment? Spent a lot of time last season starting on the bench, but he was always one to make good impacts as a substitute.
Maik Nawrocki
Celtic fans rate Nawrocki because he’s hardly put a foot wrong in the small number of games he’s played. Probably wants to leave but he has the quality to play for Celtic.
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Do we really need to justify this one? The man mountain is a must keep.
Arne Engels
Engels splits opinion like marmite does. But he is Celtic’s record signing at £11m and still has plenty of years ahead of him to fulfil his potential.
Paulo Bernardo
On his day, Bernardo is a good player. He performed poorly in the Scottish Cup final, but he did not get as much game time as he’d have wanted.
Daizen Maeda
Exactly in the same category as Carter-Vickers. Celtic must do everything to keep Maeda this summer amid links to Fenerbahce.
Reo Hatate
Possibly the most entertaining player to watch in the Scottish Premiership, a football purist’s dream. Hatate is a quality operator.
Callum McGregor
Celtic’s captain is vital for the dressing room. His experience and leadership is something money can’t buy and he knows the club inside out.
James Forrest
There’s no way we’re putting Celtic’s most decorated player in the sell category. Forrest is contracted at Celtic until next summer and like McGregor, provides crucial experience and reliability.
Players Celtic can sell this summer

Liam Scales
Scales has enjoyed some good moments in a Celtic shirt, but he can be a bit shaky on the ball and isn’t the quality the Hoops need. Can be sold if a suitable bid comes in.
Nicolas Kuhn
Started last season tremendously and was the best player in Scotland by Christmas. But his form drop-off was worrying and he’s being linked with a move to the Premier League. Cash in.
Johnny Kenny
Celtic are very likely about to sign a new striker this summer and that spells bad news for Kenny. He needs to leave and further his career elsewhere.
Anthony Ralston
It’s a harsh one, but Celtic need to find a promising young right-back who can be the heir to Alistair Johnston’s throne in the event a bid is lodged for the Canadian.
Celtic’s returning loan players who can be sold
- Gustaf Lagerbielke
- Kwon Hyeok-kyu
- Marco Tilio
- Stephen Welsh
- Luis Palma
